The portraits of five U.S. Presidents appear on cards. Each President's portrait corresponds to a number, as indicated on the Key Card. The cards are spread face down before your spectator, who selects one of them while your back is turned. Then the spectator moves the number of cards that corresponds to the number of their President from their right to their left. In other words, if they select President Kennedy, his number being 3, they would move three cards--one at a time from the right of the row of cards to the left.

A moment later, you turn back around and ask the spectator to mix the cards up a second time! Then, you pick up each card one by one saying, 'No, this is not the card. No this is not the card...' until you come to the last card. You turn it over and, to the amazement of all, it is the selected card!
